Carmel Valley Residence – Progress in August

Our Carmel Valley Residence is nearing completion and we cannot be more excited to see the finished home this fall.

All of the windows have been installed, the exterior wood siding and concrete work is complete and work is progressing quickly on the interior of the home.

Above is a closer view of the cantilevered living room. This room, as well as the adjoining dining room are mostly glass, allowing for a flood of natural light, as well as a beautiful view over the Carmel Valley.

Inside the home, work is progressing in kitchen and the stone flooring is set to be installed within the next few weeks.

Carmel Valley Residence – Progress in December

One last update on our Carmel Valley Residence before the holiday season!


The rough framing at the main house and guest house is almost complete and work continues on the electrical and plumbing work throughout the home. The stairway to the entry is ready to pour and the tubing for the radiant flooring has been installed.

Above is a photo of the site looking towards the garage/lower level and front of the home.

Above is a photo taken in April of this year from roughly the same spot on site, looking directly at the lower level of the home. For reference, Mary Ann is walking through the garage of the home.

The stairway to the entry of the home is prepped and ready to pour. Above, you can see the reinforcing bar and formwork in place. Also, you can see the roof of the lower level of the home to the right of the stairway. Eventually, this roof will be a green roof planted with drought-resistant plants.

Additional framing has been added to the fireplace that was recently installed.

The tubing has been installed for the radiant heating throughout the home as well

Carmel Valley Residence – Progress in October

Our Carmel Valley Residence is really starting to take shape! The concrete steps to the front entry are complete, all of the framing has been constructed and the roof for the main house and guest house is being built.

Carmel Valley Residence – Progress in August

We have made a lot of progress at our Carmel Valley Residence during August!

Above is a photo of the front entry of the home. The entry stairs have been formed  and will be poured soon.

The rest of the steel has been erected on site and much of the wood framing has been constructed. Above is a photo looking towards the entryway and master suite. In the far right corner you can see the framing for the library.

Above, is a photo of the main hall taken from the entryway of the home. Clockwise from the bottom left you can see the entrance to the master suite, living room/dining room area, entrance to the kitchen and, in the right foreground, the entrance to the library.

We have made a lot of progress in just one month! Above is a view of the same area (library and kitchen on the right and living/dining room straight ahead) taken last month before the steel was constructed for the roof and LVLs (Laminated Veneer Lumber) for the window system.

Moving further down the hallway, you can see the steel framing for the living/dining area is almost complete. Darren Geyer (left foreground) was on site to paint the steel beams that will be exposed in the throughout the main level of the home.

The steel continues to be installed at our Carmel Valley Residence and the lower floor is starting to take shape. Framing on the main level of the home is complete and work has started on the window wall systems on the main level.

On the main level of the home, the steel decking has been installed to make way for the concrete at the entry way (shown on the far left) and for the grass roof above the garage and playroom on the right.

Above is a photo taken from the entryway, looking down the hall towards the living and dining area of the home. On the left you can see the entrance to the master bedroom and bathroom and to the right you can see the library and, further back, the kitchen.

Further down the hall, still looking towards the dining and living area, you can see the framing of the library (in the foreground on the right-hand side) and the kitchen (behind the library) has been built.

Above is a view of the dining and living room at the south end of the home. The kitchen and dining rooms will both have a large wall of windows to take advantage of the great view.

And here is a view of the same area of the home from the opposite direction, taken from the living room looking north.  On the right is the master suite – specifically the master closet and the master bathroom and to the left you can see the kitchen (in the foreground) and the library (behind the kitchen).

Carmel Valley Residence – Progress in June

The plumbing and wiring continue to be installed at our Carmel Valley Residence. Additional footings in the main house have been poured and the framing for the master bedroom, library, and kitchen has been built.

On the lower level of the home, temporary bracing for the garage door header has been built. Eventually, these supports will be removed and a new garage door will be installed.

Installation of electrical conduit has started in the garage area.  In the photo above, you can see the playroom and elevator taken from the entrance to the garage.

Steel framing for the elevator that will take visitors from the lower level to the main level has been built.

Towards the end of June, the steel on the lower level was installed and reinforcing bar was installed for the concrete slab in the garage.

At the beginning of the month, the footings were poured in the library, master bedroom and dining room. Above is a shot of the home taken near the kitchen looking east towards the library and master suite.

Towards the end of June, the walls for the master bedroom, master bathroom and library were built. Above is a shot down the hall taken from the entry of the home. The master bedroom and bathroom are on the left and the library is on the right; beyond is the future dining room and living room which will have glass walls to take advantage of the great view of Carmel Valley!

The living room of the home was designed to slightly cantilever over the lover floor.

Above is a great shot of the job site in May. From left to right you can see work beginning on the master bathroom, dining room and living room, kitchen, patio and the guest house on the far right. Above you can see the utilities connecting from the mechanical room, below the kitchen, to the guest house.

The plywood for the future kitchen has been installed. Where the two saw horses are located in the photo above  is slightly to the right of where the French doors to the BBQ patio will be.

Framing in the guest house continues to be installed. The guest house will have a bedroom and office/sitting area for guests.
